BYB@Blackrod

BYB@Blackrod is a powerful initiative from Blackrod Primary School, developed to create new opportunities for children and young people at Blackrod Primary School and within the community. It developed out of an awareness that an excellent education is a pre-requisite for all children but when enhanced by a holistic approach to the curriculum, broad and balanced in its truest meaning and taking education beyond the school day, we create something special; supporting our children to become active and responsible citizens of our community and world.

BYB@Blackrod has great support; working with partners from within Bolton Council including work with Bolton Play & Youth Services, Bolton Libraries & Museum Services; charitable organisations including The Octagon Theatre, Bolton Community & Voluntary Services, AGE UK, other schools and even a 'Pick Your Own' Fruit Farm, Felderland Pick Your Own, in Kent through a collaboration brought together via LEAF Education (Linking Environment and Farming), an organisation set up to bring farming into the classroom.

Through BYB@Blackrod our aim is for Blackrod Primary School to be at the very heart of its community, fully utilising its natural environment, resources and assets, and embracing new opportunities for the benefit of all children and young people.

BYB@Blackrod Activities

ENVIRONMENT

Empowering children to connect with local environments in order to learn new skills, build resilience and improve their physical health and mental wellbeing.

COMMUNITY COHESION

Creating strong community networks, opportunities for people to come together to support children and young people and nurture a sense of belonging, confidence and citizenship.
