Moving Picture Books

During Design Technology we have been exploring mechanisms, we have explored the use of Sliders and how they are used to make things move, up/down and left/right. With this information we have created our own Moving Picture Books using our drawing and cutting skills, we had to design the background and characters to retell the story of Humpty Dumpty.

In DT we have been learning all about fruit and vegetables to make our very own smoothies. We began our project by looking at and sorting fruits and vegetables. We found out that fruit has seeds! Did you know that a pepper is a fruit? We then tried and tasted different fruit and vegetables. After tasting the fruits and vegetables we decided which smoothie we wanted to make. We practised our cutting skills in preparation to make our smoothies and used a blender to make them. They tasted delicious!

Mastering Our Skills

We revisited the skills that we needed to make our marble runs in Autumn 2, we found easier ways to measure the runs using a ruler and quicker ways to make holes in the card with scissors!

Marble Runs

In our Autumn term DT project we made our very own Marble runs. We started our project by looking at existing marble runs, looking at what they are made out of and what we liked & disliked. Before we began making our marble runs, we completed our focused practical tasks which involved sticking together card, cutting a hole in card and creating a strip of paper for the runs. These were all the things we needed to practise in order to make our Marble Run. 

We designed our own marble run and began to make it, we used card and cardboard boxes for the base. We loved making our marble runs and playing with them with our friends. After we had made them we evaluated them looking at what was good and what we would improve.
