Drawing-Tell a story

We have been developing our knowledge of drawing materials to explore mark making with charcoal and experiment with creating texture replicate textures from touch

We had fun drawing a soft toy from observation, adding texture.

We loved developing new characters illustrations, applying skills with line and mark making to add expression and detail.

We used these characters in our concertina book, which we illustrated with scenes.

Collage

We explored Milhazes work and discussed what words we could use to explain her style. What we liked about her artwork and why.

We talked about how her artwork was different from other artists we have studied and what techniques she has used.

The children created a Milhazes style pieces using shapes and vibrant colours. They then created a collage using bright coloured shapes. They layered their shapes and used a ripping technique to add paper.

We created a Milhazes inspired 'Spring Love' display as a Key Stage. What an amazing piece of artwork they created.

Painting

At the start of our project, we looked at different colours and identified the 3 primary colours red yellow and blue. We explored these colours and mixed them together to create secondary colours as well as creating a colour wheel to show this. We were inspired by Vincent Van Gogh for our painting project. We looked at his paintings and noticed he had a particular style, he used bright colours just like his friend Gauguin. He also painted using small dashes. We had a go at this in our sketch books painting in the style of Gauguin. We then created our own Rangoli patterns as it was near Diwali and painted them in the style of Van Gogh.

Drawing and Sketching

In Art we have been practising our drawing and sketching skills. We started by completing a self portrait of ourselves. We then looked at different skills we can do to enhance our self portrait. The children loved exploring and investigating different types of line drawings and tone drawings. We also looked at the art work of Paul Gauguin and sketched some of his art work. The children worked so hard and were super artists.
